Privacy policy

Last updated 5 October 2026

ThaliScore (formerly NutriScan) grades food from A to E. It has no accounts, no ads and no analytics or tracking. This page explains exactly what leaves your phone and why.

What stays on your phone

Deleting your details in the app, clearing history, or uninstalling the app removes them.

Barcode scans

When you scan a barcode, only the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, an open food database, to look up the product. Open Food Facts’ own privacy policy applies to that request.

Label and food photos, and the opinion

When you scan a nutrition label or a plate of food, the photo (and, for food, any description you type) is sent to the ThaliScore server, which passes it to an AI model to read the label or recognise the dish. To write the advice on each result, the server also sends the food’s name, grade, nutrients and ingredient flags.

Sharing

Shared images and PDF reports are made on your phone and go only where you send them. They never include your personal “For you” note, health heads-ups or allergy alerts.

Support payments

“Buy me an avocado” opens your own UPI app. ThaliScore never sees or handles your payment details.

Permissions

Children

Child mode gives food guidance for children; it doesn’t ask for or store any information about your child beyond the age band you pick, which stays on your phone. ThaliScore doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Not medical advice

Grades and advice are general guidance based on the Nutri-Score method and published guidelines from WHO, ICMR-NIN and FSSAI. Scores for food photos are estimates. For dietary or medical needs, talk to a doctor or dietitian.
